This past weekend, the San Diego Roller Derby Starlettes took on V-Town Derby Dames from Visalia, CA for the first time. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding this game as the two teams had never met before on the derby track.
From the first jam, Starlettes set the pace of the game. Starlettes jammer Dee Troit sliced through the pack to pick up first lead jam of the bout and went on to get 20 pts. Starlettes kept the pressure on the remainder of the first half; V-Town jammers could not get past strong Starlettes defensive walls and backwards blocking plays while Starlettes jammers passed opposing blockers numerous times. At half time, score for Starlettes was over 100.
After half-time, V Town came back with even harder hits and more aggressive jamming, but they were still unable to close the wide point gap between themselves and the Starlettes. New jammers stepped up to jam for the Starlettes, including Buns of Fury and first-time Starlette Samwise Banshee. Both were able to gain lead jammer status several times and score points for their team. V Towns jammers Holly LouYa and ThunderStix were incredibly impressive and showed a lot of tenacity despite the strong defense and hits the Starlettes sent their way.
Suitably this bout would end with the Starlettes first lead jammer, Dee Troit, gaining lead status once again and calling off the jam as time expired. Final score: 232 – 98 Starlettes for the win!!
