Brett Stang-

Head Coach Starlettes and Rockettes

Brett Stang started San Diego Roller Derby at Skateworld in July 2008.  With just a handful of ladies, Brett helped the league grow to where it is now.  He coaches both ladies team, the Starlettes and the Rockettes.  His favorite moment as a coach was then the Starlettes won the Battle For The Coast (B bracket) Tournament.  That moment was the turning point for the Starlettes.

Brett was born on skates and has skating experience in artistic, hockey, jam, theater, choreography, and roller derby.

Harry Beck-

Assistant Coach for Fundamentals Class

Harry started coaching the new skaters shortly after the league began.  He continues to coach the fundamentals of skating to the men and women new recruits.  His favorite moments are when skaters like Litl Rampage and Indiana Bruiser train hard during the fundaments and pass skills unexpectantly.   Litl Rampage made a roster almost immediately after passing skills.

Harry has worked at roller rinks since he was 16 years old.  He has a background in dance skate (non-competitive) and Rexing (competitive).  As a rexer, backwards skating in a pattern, Harry competed and won West Coast titles in singles and Regionals in doubles.

Bully Julie- Bully Julie Cadettes

Cadettes- Junior Roller Derby

Bully Julie joined San Diego Roller Derby midseason 2010.  She is a skating member of the Starlettes and has been coaching the Cadettes Junior Roller Derby program since it began December 2010.  She has a hard time picking a single moment because she has so many.  She has at least one favorite moment for each Cadette.  One moment that stands out is when Channel 8 came at the crack of dawn and did a segment on the juniors.  The juniors all did so great that day and she was really proud of them.  Her favorite part about junior roller derby is watching them progress.  She enjoys seeing the transformation from where they started to where they are now.

Bully Julie started skating at a young age and competed in dance and figure skating.  She was also on a rexing team called the Radical Rexers.  Her roller derby career began in 2006 and was head of the training team for San Diego Derby Dolls for 3 years.  She has also coached roller derby camps, clinics and various leagues.

Sarah Lang-

AfterShocks- Men’s Roller Derby, Assistant Coach Starlettes and Rockettes

Sarah was with San Diego Roller Derby when they first began in 2008.  She is a skating member of the Starlettes and helped start the Junior and Men’s roller derby programs.  Her favorite moments as a coach have been watching B Stang develop into one of the best roller derby players she has ever seen and watching skaters learn her backwards blocking techniques.

Sarah grew up skating in artistic skates on asphalt, which might explain some of her moves.  She joined the San Diego Derby Dolls bootcamp in December 2006.  In March 2007 she was a skating member of the dolls and transfered to San Diego Roller Derby in July 2008.
